ICPC–JRC Scholarship
1. Introduction to the ICPC–JRC Scholarship Award
The ICPC–Jamilur Reza Choudhury Scholarship Award is a prestigious academic initiative of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP), established to recognize and encourage students who demonstrate exceptional performance in competitive programming, particularly in ICPC-related activities. The scholarship honors the legacy of National Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, whose lifelong contributions to engineering, information technology, and education played a foundational role in nurturing technical talent in Bangladesh.
The scholarship is organized by the Programming Contest Club (PCC) and is awarded each semester to deserving students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. It aims to strengthen competitive programming culture at UAP by supporting students who actively participate in programming contests and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills. Each semester, the scholarship is awarded to ten students, including six senior-level and four junior-level students. Selection is based on merit and performance, following a transparent and fair evaluation process conducted by the Programming Contest Club. So far, the scholarship has been awarded twice, recognizing a total of forty students.
The first award ceremony covered the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters, during which 20 students were honored at a ceremony held at the UAP Auditorium. The event was attended by distinguished members of the university administration and Board of Trustees, including Architect Mahbuba Haque, Chairperson of the UAP Board of Trustees, Dr. M. Alauddin, Mr. Monzoor Ahmed Chowdhury, and Prof. Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Vice Chancellor of UAP. Speakers highlighted the importance of preserving Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury’s legacy and encouraging young talents in computer science and programming.

The second award ceremony was held on 7 May, recognizing student achievements from the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. A total of 20 students received the scholarship at this event. The program highlighted the continued efforts of the UAP Programming Contest Club (PCC) in developing a vibrant and inclusive competitive programming environment. A special video message from Dr. William (Bill) Poucher, President of the ICPC Foundation, paid tribute to Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury’s contributions to global competitive programming and appreciated UAP’s initiative.
