Dr. Nazmun Nahid received her Ph.D. from Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan, specializing in AI-enabled digital health, elderly activity recognition, and human–computer interaction. Her research focuses on designing context-aware and personalized monitoring systems for vulnerable populations, with a strong emphasis on real-world deployment in long-term care environments.
She has been a core contributor to several large-scale, interdisciplinary research projects. Under the JST MIRAI initiative, she worked on developing personalized elderly monitoring systems for dementia care facilities, where her responsibilities included research protocol design, real-world data collection, and the development of machine learning algorithms for behavior and activity analysis, aiming to bridge clinical care needs with AI-driven sensing and decision support. Through the industry-academic Yaskawa–Chiho-Sousei project, she contributed to mixed reality–based human–robot collaboration systems, focusing on integrating human behavioral modeling with MR interfaces to enable safe and intuitive close-proximity human–robot interaction, from system design to real-world deployment.
Internationally, Dr. Nahid served as a visiting researcher at the University of East London (UK), where she worked on an automated autism assessment system using multimodal sensing and ensemble learning, exploring scalable and objective frameworks to support robot-assisted therapy. Beyond these flagship projects, her work includes AR-based mobile applications for nurse assistance, generative AI–based 3D human motion synthesis with domain knowledge constraints, and nurse schedule estimation and reallocation for workload-aware care support.
Her technical expertise spans machine learning, mobile and wearable sensing, behavioral modeling, and digital intervention design. She has received several honors, including the JST GE SPRING Fellowship and awards and recognitions from ACM, IEEE, and NVIDIA. Alongside her research, Dr. Nahid
is actively engaged in mentoring, teaching practical simulation and Unity-based development, academic service, and community outreach. She is currently involved in the JST RISTEX government-funded project, contributing to socio-technical solutions aimed at improving the quality, efficiency, and sustainability of elderly care systems in Japan.
